English Law and English Legal Vocabulary to support International Lawyers taking an SQE course
We enable international lawyers to work more effectively in English by offering training that increases their expertise, saves their time, and reduces commercial risk. In September 2021, lawyers from all over the world began registering to study for the new Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), the exam that native English-speaking lawyers must pass in order to practise law under the rules of the English Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Following a course of study for an exam designed for native English speakers can lead to very specific challenges for lawyers whose first language is not English. The common law contains many legal concepts that do not exist in codified systems, and much of the vocabulary international learners meet will be new to them.
